About

People who experience interpersonal violence or disaster are at high risk for adverse physical and mental health conditions.  One of these  is posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD).  Rates of PTSD are exceptionally high for victims of sexual violence, intimate partner violence and of disaster. PTSD can then result in increased risks of chronic diseases, other mental health conditions such as depression or anxiety, suicidality and substance abuse.

The manner in which professionals work with people after these experiences can impact their risks of PTSD.  Understanding trauma informed care as well as how to reduce factors that worsen the trauma are key components in promotion of resilience post-trauma.

The focus of the training and consultations discussed in this site is to assist professionals in reducing client risks and promoting their resilience to trauma.
