Rural Sexual Assault Course-Enhanced (RSACE)

  • This course builds on the EESAS content but is designed only for health professionals (nurses, physicians, midwives).
  • An additional 5 modules are presented to give further depth to information such as injuries, medication decision making, examination techniques and court testimony.
  • the course is approximately 8-10 hours in length, self-paced and fully online
  • it is offered through Northwest Polytechic (NWP) continuing education for a fee

Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Course (SANE)

  • this 48 hr online course is developed to address the required content for care of adults and adolescents who have been sexually assaulted
  • the content is designed to comply with that outlined by the International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN) in the event that the nurse wishes to certify after a few years in specialized practice (after this course learners must present the course outline for acceptance by IAFN and then provide proof of competence working in sexual assault nursing and write an exam).
  • this course is only for RNs, MDs and midwives as it is aimed at independent specialized practice and requires a minimum background of pathophysiology and pharmacology. Clinical practice postgraduation is also recommended with strong assessment skills.
  • this course is taught for Forensic Education through Northwest Polytechnic with Dr. Carter-Snell, who has taught the course and updated it regularly since 1998. She co-teaches with at least one other experienced certified SANE-A nurse currently providing clinical care.
